The N-1 is a cold-weather jacket for deck crew that was adopted around 1943; it can be considered the ultimate evolution of the denim and jungle cloth jackets used prior to that time.It features high-density woven jungle cloth (cotton grosgrain), which dramatically improves wind resistance and durability. Furthermore, it was developed to protect sailors’ body heat even in the extreme conditions of a deck in the dead of winter, thanks to a thick lining made primarily of alpaca wool throughout the entire jacket.

As one of the U.S. Navy’s iconic cold-weather garments from World War II, its functionality and refined design have made it a symbol of vintage military fashion, enjoying immense popularity among collectors and in the fashion scene worldwide even today.

This is an actual piece worn by a Navy sailor, featuring a “WALT U.S.N.” stencil on the chest that exudes the unique presence only an authentic piece can offer. A squadron patch is attached to the left chest, though it is presumed to be a custom addition from a later period. Nevertheless, it serves as a detail that allows you to appreciate the history of this piece, etched over the long years.
