Commonly known as “Chocolate Chip,” this garment is emblematic of U.S. military desert gear from the 1980s. This is a 6-Color Desert Camouflage Combat Coat from the 1986 contract, representing the mid-production model.

Although the 6C Desert pattern is strongly associated with its use during the Gulf War, its adoption actually dates back to before that time.Developed for use in desert environments, this camouflage features a unique design consisting of large tan and brown patterns interspersed with fine black and white specks that evoke the shadows of rocks and pebbles. Because these black specks resemble chocolate chips, it is affectionately known as “Chocolate Chip” in the vintage market.

According to the inner label, this item is DLA100-86-C-0625, contracted in 1986. It was manufactured by TERRY MANUFACTURING CO., INC., and the fabric is 50% nylon / 50% cotton. It is a mid-1980s piece, typical of that era.

The front features four large pockets with flaps. The elbows are reinforced with fabric, and the cuffs are adjustable with buttons. It combines the practical details typical of U.S. military combat uniforms—which would later evolve into BDU—with the striking visual appeal unique to the 6C Desert colorway.

Above all, this particular piece is in superb condition.

It appears to be virtually unused, with the fabric retaining a firm, crisp texture and the camouflage colors remaining exceptionally vivid. Since most “chocolate chip” camouflage tends to fade to a pale hue over time with repeated wear and washing, a piece that allows you to enjoy the original coloration to this extent is particularly appealing. The inner paper label is also fully intact, making it an impeccable addition to any collection.

The size is MEDIUM-SHORT. According to the label, it fits a height of 63–67 inches and a chest circumference of 37–41 inches. With the body width of a MEDIUM but a shorter length, this size offers a balance that should be easy for Japanese people to wear.

While this camouflage pattern is emblematic of the Gulf War in the early 1990s, this particular piece was manufactured several years earlier, in 1986—toward the end of the Cold War. It possesses a distinct charm as a piece of 1980s U.S. military gear, setting it apart from later versions.

It’s also exceptionally well-crafted as a fashion piece and pairs perfectly with denim or chinos. Furthermore, with its contract year, manufacturer, size, and condition all clearly documented, this is a piece that can be thoroughly enjoyed as part of a military collection.

Please note that since this is a used item, returns are not accepted.
