A lightweight jacket for U.S. Army pilots, manufactured under a 1990 contract. The size is LARGE-REGULAR.

This flight jacket for the Army Aviation Corps is part of the same lineage as the 1974 contract item we introduced previously. It was worn by soldiers serving in Army aviation units, including helicopter units, and its practical, combat-ready look in olive drab (OD)which differs from Air Force-style flight jackets—is particularly appealing.

The official name is “JACKET, FLYER’S: LIGHTWEIGHT (EXPANDABLE WRIST AND WAIST).”The label confirms the contract number DLA100-90-C-0468 and a 1990 contract; the material is 100% NYLON, NON-MELTING, just like the previously mentioned jacket. It is made from non-melting NOMEX nylon, a material selected for its low flammability.

What makes this piece special is the left sleeve, which features an “AIRBORNE” tab and a 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagle” patch sewn onto it. Velcro remains on the chest for attaching name tags and other items, so this isn’t just a typical deadstock item—you can fully appreciate its authentic military apparel presence.

The silhouette—with its large collar, short body length, and knit ribbing at the hem and cuffs—gives the impression, in a sense, of a World War II-era tanker’s jacket reimagined as modern flight wear. The sleeves feature utility pockets, and SCOVILL zippers are visible on both the main and sleeve pockets. While simple in design, the more you look at the details, the more you’ll appreciate its authentic military charm.

The size is LARGE-REGULAR, offering a perfect balance of rarity and comfort. The listed chest measurement is 41–45 inches, and the recommended height is 67–71 inches. It’s also recommended for those who want to enjoy a vintage flight jacket with a modern fit.

Condition: Used. While there are signs of wear from use—such as pilling on the ribbing and minor scuffs—it is in good overall condition considering its age. This is a charming piece that retains its 101st AIRBORNE patch; it’s not only great for wearing but also makes for an interesting addition to any collection focused on Army Aviation history or airborne units.

Condition: Used / Shows signs of wear, but overall in good condition
