Commonly known as “Chocolate Chip,” this U.S. Army desert camouflage pattern exudes an overwhelming presence. This is a 6-Color Desert Camouflage Combat Coat from the 1990 contract, available in the highly desirable “MEDIUM X-SHORT” size.

The 6C Desert Camouflage was adopted specifically for operations in desert regions. Featuring a tan base with bold brown accents and scattered small black and white rock-like patterns, this unique camouflage pattern later became widely known by the nickname “Chocolate Chip.”As a U.S. military camouflage pattern particularly emblematic of the Gulf War period from 1990 to 1991, it enjoys immense popularity today not only as military wear but also in the world of vintage fashion.

According to the contract label on the inside, this item is DLA100-90-D-0584, contracted in 1990. The manufacturer is AMERICAN APPAREL, INC., and the material is 50% COTTON / 50% NYLON.

The standout feature is undoubtedly the “MEDIUM X-SHORT” size. The label specifies HEIGHT 59–63 inches, CHEST 37–41 inches, and NATO SIZE 5060/9404.The “X-SHORT” style features a shorter body length while maintaining the substantial width of a “MEDIUM” jacket. It offers a very interesting balance for wearing this chocolate-chip jacket as a fashion statement, and I highly recommend this particular piece to anyone looking for a short-length jacket.

The front features four large flap pockets, two on top and two on bottom. This is not just a camouflage jacket; it boasts the rugged look characteristic of U.S. military combat wear, designed with practicality in the field as the top priority. The contrast between the large areas of brown and the fine chip pattern is superb, allowing you to fully appreciate the distinctive impact of the 6C Desert camouflage.

This is a used item. It exhibits a well-worn patina throughout from actual use and aging, and there are even handwritten notes remaining on the size label at the collar. The fabric, pockets, and cuffs also show signs of wear characteristic of vintage military gear. This unique character—something new items can never replicate—is a major part of the appeal of enjoying authentic surplus items.

Dating from the 1990 fiscal year—just before the Gulf War—this iconic 6C Desert jacket in size MEDIUM X-SHORT is more than just another “chocolate chip” jacket; it’s a piece you’ll want to choose specifically, right down to the size.

Please note that returns are not accepted for used items.
