This is an early-production ERDL (Engineer Research & Development Laboratory) camouflage jungle fatigues jacket, featuring the ERDL pattern known as the iconic camouflage of the Vietnam War era.

The size is estimated to be equivalent to MEDIUM-REGULAR.

ERDL camouflage was a pioneer of modern camouflage developed by the U.S. military in the mid-1960s and is a historic pattern that served as the prototype for the later Woodland camouflage. Initially issued on a limited basis primarily to special forces and reconnaissance units, it gradually became more widespread toward the end of the Vietnam War.

Judging by the details and fabric texture, this item is believed to be an early print piece from around 1966–67. It was manufactured at a time when ERDL camouflage itself was not yet common, making it a highly sought-after era among collectors. What makes this piece even more interesting is that it is a jungle fatigue jacket—originally designed with long sleeves—that was modified into a short-sleeved version either in the field or by the soldier himself. On the hot and humid battlefields of Southeast Asia, it was not uncommon for soldiers to cut off the sleeves for practicality, and such field modifications are a unique and appealing feature of Vietnam War-era gear. There are also examples of worn-out jackets being converted to short sleeves for wear at base camps and other locations.

Years of use have caused the camouflage to fade significantly, giving the jacket a unique, overall whitish appearance. However, this very appearance conveys the raw power unique to an authentic piece that has survived harsh conditions. It exudes a vintage charm entirely distinct from the vibrant ERDL pattern.

The wear around the pockets and seams is beautiful, and the atmosphere that can only be achieved through extensive use is something that can never be replicated by a new item. It is a highly attractive piece, not only for its historical value but also as a piece of vintage clothing.

As a valuable authentic piece that tells the story of the early days of ERDL camouflage, this is a highly recommended addition to any collection.
